This is what’s coming up in the theatre this week.

What: HEARTBREAK HOUSE

When: Wednesday, May 25 at 8:00 p.m. to October 7

Where: At the Festival Theatre.

Why: Opening of the 50th anniversary season of the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. By George Bernard Shaw of course. About a weekend in the country, but of course it’s not that simple.

What: CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF

When: Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. to October 23.

Where: The Royal George Theatre, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario

Why: Tennessee Williams’ classic about love and betrayal.

What: DRAMA AT INISH

When: Friday, May 27, at 8:00 pm to October 1

Where: The Courthouse Theatre, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario

Why: A found gem of Irish theatre by Lennox Robinson. A comedy about serious drama.

What: CANDIDA

When: Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm until Oct. 30.

Where: The Royal George Theatre, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario

Why: A love triangle from Shaw. One woman, two men, one of whom is her minister husband, the other is a younger, passionate poet. Who will win?

What: MY FAIR LADY

When: Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 8:00 pm until October 30.

Where: The Festival Theatre, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario

Why: Based on Shaw’s Pygmalion. Musical by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe.
