This is what theatre is opening in Toronto (for the most part) this week.

What: AS YOU PUPPET

When: Monday, April 11, 2011, 10:30 am and 12:45 pm playing until April 21.

Where: Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People

Why: Shakespeare’s As You Like It as done by hand puppets. At hit at the Toronto Fringe.

What: GHOST STORIES

When: Tuesday, April 12 at 7:00 pm until May 8, 2011

Where: The Panasonic Theatre

Why: Because it’s spooky and it was terrific fun in London; I
doubt that would change in Toronto.

What: DIVING NORMAL

When: April 11-23, 2011 8:00 pm

Where: Toronto Free Gallery, 1277 Bloor St. W

Why: By Ashlin Halfnight and supported by Redone Theater Collective,
a fabulous company.

What: OUR TOWN

When: Opens April 13, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Where: The Young Centre for the Performing Arts

Why: good question. It’s a lovely production but it’s been brought back at least five times in the past 11 years. Enough already.

What: NIGHT

When: April 14-24, 2011, 8:00 pm

Where: Factory Theatre

Why: Part of Performance Spring Festival and produced by Human Cargo. About a Toronto anthropologist and a 16 year old Inuk girl during 24 hours of darkness in Pond Inlet.

What: The SITUATIONISTS

Where: Buddies in Bad Times Theatre

When: From April 13 to April 24, 2011 eve. 8:00 pm. Mat. 2:30 pm

Why: Written and directed by Sky Gilbert. Examines the relationship between left-wing politics and sexuality.

What: WAR HORSE

Where: Lincoln Center Theater, New York City.

When: Opens April 14, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Why: Because it’s brilliant and I’m going to the opening.

Where: Upstairs lobby in the Bluma Appel Theatre

When: Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 6:30 pm

Why: Your turn to ask him about his choice of plays and programming.

Tickets: Free. Just walk right up.
