• Born on July 8, 1831, pharmacist John Stith Pemberton, was shot and slashed in the U.S. Civil War and began using morphine to ease his pain. Trying to find an alternative painkiller using coca leaves and kola nuts, he created a drink that later became Coca-Cola.

• Born on July 8, 1885, German clothes-maker Hugo Boss. After service in World War I, he set up his manufacturing business and by 1931 had joined the Nazi Party, for which he already produced uniforms. (eeeeewwwwww).
