Correction to my review of Asking for It.
In my review for Asking for It by Ellie Moon, playing at the Firehall of the Thousand Islands Playhouse, Gananoque, Ont. until Sept. 29, I miss-heard a speech at the end suggesting that Ellie Moon liked the rough sex she experienced in one of the scenes. This is incorrect. Here is the actual speech, kindly sent to me by Ellie Moon:
“That used to be the end, but now this is the end. When I put out the Facebook post request for interview subjects, I did so with an agenda. I wanted to know why I tolerate pain or discomfort during sex. Is it a lack of respect for myself, a lack of connection with myself, or is that just part of it and have I not had enough sex yet? How do you maintain control while making discoveries? What does any of this say about me, about us? What does sex give access to, what does communicating give access to, what’s the cost of that access? That’s it. That’s the end of the play. Thanks so much for coming.” “That used to be the end, but now this is the end. When I put out the Facebook post request for interview subjects, I did so with an agenda. I apologize to Ellie Moon for any distress this miss-hearing caused. Asking for It is a terrific, challenging play.
